SPI Automation has published a new White Paper that gives some background and addresses the benefits of automated robotic palletizing. The information from the White Paper is listed below. A PDF of the White Paper can be downloaded here.

SELECT AN INTEGRATOR

The selection of a qualified systems integrator is the critical step towards successful robotic automation.

BENEFITS OF ROBOTIC PALLETIZING

SPI Automation engineers and manufactures custom robotic palletizing systems.

EXAMPLES

SPI Automation has a long history of solving complex palletizing problems.

CUSTOM END OF ARM TOOLING

Every robotic palletizing system is equipped with custom End of Arm Tooling engineered and built for a specific task.

SELECT AN INTEGRATOR

A robotic systems integrator is needed to incorporate a robotic work cell into your production line.

Your selected robotic systems integrator will provide the following steps throughout your project:

  • Provide a project feasibility study
  • Provide the robot that will add the greatest benefit to your project
  • Provide the End Of Arm Tooling best suited to your product
  • Provide options for project cost savings
  • Provide installation of your robotic system
  • Provide training assistance to your employees on the operation and maintenance of your robotic system

SPI Automation is an experienced robotic systems integrator with a long-standing history of integrating robotic palletizing into customers current operation and production flows. In many cases the customer may not have to make major modifications to current processes to successfully integrate robotic palletizing.

BENEFITS OF ROBOTIC PALLETIZING

The benefits of integrating a robotic palletizing system into manufacturing processes are many:

  1. Increased efficiency and productivity
  2. Potential to serve multiple applications using a variety of End Of Arm Tools
  3. Integration with current process
  4. Reliability and flexibility
  5. Possible elimination of repeated motion injuries
  6. Potential for expedited Return On Investment (ROI)

CUSTOM END OF ARM TOOLING

While the robot is the mechanism that does the heavy lifting, the End Of Arm Tooling (EOAT) is the tool that manipulates the product(s) to be transferred. It serves to arrange the product in the configuration needed to complete the pallet.

EOAT for robotic palletizing comes in a variety of options such as:

  1. Bag Tooling – Loose filled bags
  2. Vacuum Tooling – Top picking of sealed cases
  3. Clamp Tooling – Side picking of irregular cases

Here are some examples of the robotic EOAT engineered by SPI Automation, as well as a close-up of the quick change tooling capability, which is an available option. The quick change tooling capability allows for a new EOAT to be quickly swapped to accommodate for new product lines coming down the same conveyor line.
